Merrifield Elementary Holds First Heritage Day
Staff and students at Merrifield Elementary are getting back to their roots. The school held its first Heritage Day on May 17. In a campus-wide ceremony, students learned about Thomas Alexander Merrifield, a founding member of the family for which the school was named (read more about Mr. Merrifield and his family here). A time capsule containing photos and memorabilia was made for the school’s current Kindergarten students, and will be opened on May 17, 2024 when these students graduate from high school. A drawing of Mr. Merrifield and his wife was also reframed by Duncanville High School teacher Pam DeWeerd, to hang in the school’s front office. Members of the Merrifield family were in attendance at the event, including great-grandchildren and their extended families.
